Shocking Auto-Rickshaw Incident in Delhi: Woman Warns Others After Near Kidnapping

{A Delhi commuter’s morning turned into a nightmare when an auto-rickshaw ride went horribly wrong. Her account went viral on Reddit, raising alarms about the risks of using autos and app-based rides.

Her Experience

The woman, who uses apps to book autos for work, chose Ola after her usual app had no autos available. A few minutes into the ride, the driver suddenly stopped, claiming his phone wasn’t working to see the way. Unbeknownst to her, he had ended the trip in the app, so tracking stopped completely.

Soon after, the driver turned onto a road that felt completely wrong, triggering alarm bells in her mind. Signs indicated they were moving opposite to her office, toward a distant area almost two hours away, far longer than her normal 30-45-minute commute.

She ordered the driver to turn back, but he insisted, “madam, this is what Google Maps is showing,” while speeding on highways where she couldn’t escape.

Her quick message to her partner prompted him to call instantly, demanding the driver take her back. After a tense exchange and her even considering jumping out, the driver finally turned back near her home, without asking for any money, and sped off. She and her partner became convinced this was an attempted kidnapping, as the driver didn’t even want payment.

Disturbed and angry, she learned Ola lacked emergency features, only advising her to contact the police.

Authorities have reported other cases in Delhi and nearby cities involving auto drivers behaving dangerously, even attempting kidnappings. Another incident involved a teenage girl in Thane who managed to escape by jumping from a running auto, aided by a compass.

How People Responded Online

Her Reddit account received dozens of shocked responses, with people commenting things like, “Horrifying!” and “That’s terrifying”. Many urged her to report to police and publicly call out Ola on platforms like X (formerly Twitter).

Users also shared their own safety tips and past encounters:

• Keep your house keys handy as an emergency defense.
• Announce your path over a call or have maps playing aloud to alert the driver someone is aware.
• Choose metro travel instead of booking autos when alone if feasible.
• Stay away from Ola due to its lack of proper safety tools.

Important Safety Tips from the Victim

Avoid Booking Autos Alone When Possible: Booking alone can be risky as you can’t always know the driver.
Verify Vehicle Details Before Boarding: Double-check the auto number to prevent impersonation.
Wait for Ride Start: Board once your one-time code is entered and the trip is live.
Keep App Open: Stay on the app to ensure the ride remains active.
Send Live Location to Someone: Let a family member or friend track your trip live.
Choose an Exit-Friendly Seat: Always keep yourself near an accessible side of the auto.
Book Only for Familiar Routes: Use ride services only when you know labubu dolls the route well.
Check Google Maps: Keep maps open to ensure you’re on the correct route.
Know Where Help Is Available: Be conscious of where help is nearby.
Steer Clear of Ola: The victim warned others to skip Ola entirely for safety.

This event highlights the pressing demand for better driver verification, constant ride tracking, and effective emergency assistance from ride-hailing services.
